My project slicely changed than before. I saw some several graphic novel as research material and it brings me to make graphic novel.
I wanted talk about utopia in modern society. Meaning of modern society’s utopia is more close to fantasy. People can consume their own fantasy. For example people can go the movie theater and watching film, it make them relax and also they give some fantasy in tough real life. This is kind of cute example, I want to make my work with more heavy story.
It’s about the drug addictor, sex addictor, hikikomori, and ect.
At first my works like this
First one is about the house of utopia. Using ironical definition, that house name will be changed for other sight of view. In other words, utopia house can be dystopia house. From that picture I wanted to express the person who buy their own utopia. Someone buy game item for win the game, that person can live as a king, unbeatable in that online game. Someone also buy the porn film and paying for the sex with prostitute. He can live as a king. That is kind of their fantasy, and it can be personal utopia.
I was talk about it with Kim and she said it’s more bie escapism. I will connected with this. People runaway from reality to buy their own fantasy.
And now I am trying to make graphic novel. Around 3 years ago I read the tale of hoffman.
He affect from one of my favorite writer Milan Kundera. So that’s why I really love this novel too. Hoffman is main character, he is successful man, he is Netherland ambassador in Prague. But personally he lack of something so he always vomit after eating. His lack was from when he was young. He is jewish, so he should hide from nazzi away from his parents. He thought his parents through away him. So he gave unlimited love to his two daughter.
However one daughter died because of leukemia, and that affect other, that other got drug addiction. And finally she take a porn movie for get drug.
I wanted to make a connection between my work and this novel. I saw some fantasy in his story. For example, Hoffman, the main character he care about his fashion and everything to show he is perfect. But actually that is just material to hide his complex. And the daughter want to get out of reality, so she decided to buy her own fantasy, “Drug”.
